This was one of my school assignments in Grade 3 to write a story. This story is fiction.
Chapter 1
One morning, I was packing my bag and getting ready to go camping with my buds. I brought lots of books, my phone, a few water bottles, s’mores etc. I was going with 3 friends: Will, Onir & Bolu.
I met them in the forest at the edge of my neighborhood. We walked along the trail for a few minutes until we found a nice area of flat land to setup our camp. We spent rest of the day unloading our stuff and setting up the tent that Bolu brought. Then we unrolled our sleeping bags and went to sleep.
Chapter 2
“Rishabh, hey Rishabh!” Onir was shaking me awake. He said “Guys, I think I heard something”.
“Go back to sleep”, Bolu moaned. Eventually, we woke up.
“Follow me”, Onir whispered.
“Where in the world are we going at THIS hour, huh?!” I said yawning.
But Onir just kept walking. We kept walking, huddled in our blankets for warmth. After a few minutes, we stopped at a clearing in the trees. A patch of moonlight shone over us. On the other side of the clearing was a mossy stone wall.
“How the heck did you know this place was here, dude?”, I whispered to Onir.
“Instinct” – he whispered back. “Well, from now on, I vote to always follow your instinct”, Bolu said. He asked how we were going to get over the wall.
“Are you crazy?!?”, Onir said.
Suddenly I had an idea. Bolu and I carried a jagged log and angled it, so it leaned against the wall. We climbed over the wall and looked around. Besides a clump of trees, there was nothing. We split up and began searching the area.
“Hello”, somebody said.
“What was that?”, Onir said.
“Whoooah! Oof!”, we heard someone say.
“Who was that?”, Wil said.
“C’mon”, I said.
We look around and we saw someone sitting with his back against the wall. It was our friend Quinton. “Owww”, he moaned.
“What are you doing here, dude”, I said.
“I fell”.
“Can you be more specific, please?”, said Onir.
“I was going on a walk and couldn’t find my way back”, Quinton said.
“Yes, but how did you fall?”, I asked.
“No idea”, he said. All I remember is seeing a flash of black and green, sort of, connected.”
“We better get out of here”, said Wil.
“We can’t”, Bolu said. “The log is on the other side of the wall.”
“Dang it”, I whispered.
Then Wil spotted a weird brown square laying on the ground. It was big enough for any one of us to climb in. It was a trap door.
Chapter 3
After lots of arguing, we climbed into the trap door. It led to a tunnel made up of stone. The tunnel was lit with torches of a strange, electric blue fire. Instead of wood, or coal producing the fire, there were a bunch of marble like rocks of the same colour as the fire. We walked on. Suddenly, the tunnel behind us closed. Apparently, Bolu stepped on some kind of pressure plate.
At the end of the tunnel, we came to a breathtaking sight. An enormous cavern loomed above us. There were cages containing skeletons hanging from the ceiling. Below us, there were at least 100 elf-like creatures about as tall as my waist with gray, rocky skin. They all had boulders chained to their legs. There were about 50 other tunnel entrances like this one, some with lava pouring out, some not. The enslaved elves were mining for the same marble like ore that made the blue fire. Humongous, orange, armored snakes were pulling cages of it. An enormous serpent head made of white marble was hanging on the other side of the tunnel we entered from. It’s tongue and eyes were on fire, and there was more lava pouring from its fangs. There were a bunch of snake people patrolling the cavern and poking the elves who weren’t mining.
“Guys”, Wil said. “I think we found some sort of Alien base”.
“What do we do”, Onir asked.
“Go home?”, Quinton said.
“We can’t”, Wil whispered. “The tunnel closed and we still can’t get over the wall.”
“Dang it”, I whispered.
We didn’t know what to do. Luckily, I had a rope in my bag, so we tried climbing down to the other tunnels until we got to the bottom floor of the humongous cave. We snuck around for a while doing well for the first time. We actually managed to get to the other side of the cavern. One very frightful moment was when Quinton stepped on a rock and almost got us caught.
I thought there could be food in the giant serpent head. We used the rope/grappling hook to get back up. Inside the head was a tunnel, which led to a small chamber. There was a small, two floor house sized sphere thing. It was made of rock with the same marbles from earlier embedded in the door.
Onir walked up to the sphere and opened the door. It was kind of tricky, saying that the sphere was floating a few feet off the ground.
“Are you crazy?!”, said Wil.
“No, he’s Onir”, I said walking up to join him. The door closed behind us.
Suddenly, the sphere jerked upwards bumping the roof.
“What was that?”, Bolu said.
He, Wil and Quinton entered the sphere and looked around. Onir & I were standing at the back and I was holding onto a weird control panel like thing.
“Sorry, sorry”, I said in a panicky voice. It was clear we were both shaken by what happened.
“Rishabh, what did you do?”, Wil said.
“I think he might have accidentally pressed a button on that control panel and that’s what triggered the sphere to move.” Bolu said.
“Really? in that case…” Wil said mischievously.
Chapter 4
“Are you sure about this”, Onir said, worried.
“Oh, I’m sure”, Wil said. He walked over to the controls and pressed a button. The sphere shook.
“Sorry”, he muttered. He tried again. It shook again. “Okay, I think I got it this time”, Wil said. He pushed a button that had a strange symbol on it.

There were a series of metallic clicks and the sphere began to vibrate. I looked outside. There was a shiny drill spinning on top of the sphere. When I got back inside, Wil pulled a lever and the sphere floated higher. The drill made a hole in the roof. After a while we ended up at the surface. Wil turned off the drill. Then he accelerated the sphere and we flew all the way back to the campsite.
The End.
